Santísima Muerte

Novena · Day 2 of 9

Santa Muerte novena: day 2

This is the second day of the Santa Muerte novena, dedicated to forgiveness. No one comes to prayer spotless. The second day is for asking forgiveness and also for forgiving. Holding a grudge is carrying something that sooner or later you will have to put down; Death teaches us that we take none of it with us.

Order for day 2

  1. Light your candle and keep a moment of silence.
  2. Say the opening prayer.
  3. Read the prayer for day 2.
  4. Make your personal request in silence.
  5. If it is your custom, pray three Our Fathers.
  6. Finish with the closing prayer.

1. Opening prayer

Most Holy Death, White Girl, here I am before you.
I light this candle as a sign that I come with an open heart.
I bring you nothing but what I am: my weariness, my doubts and my faith.
You who make no difference between the rich and the poor,
you who wait for everyone with the same patience,
receive me during these nine days of prayer.
May every night I spend before you leave me a little more at peace.
So be it.

Santa Muerte novena, day 2: forgiveness

2. Prayer for the second day

Most Holy Death, today I bring you my faults,
the ones I committed on purpose and the ones I never noticed.
I ask forgiveness for the harm I caused with my words and with my silences.
Help me also to forgive whoever hurt me,
not to forget, but to stop carrying that weight.
May my heart be lighter tonight.

3. Your request

Say in your own words what you want to ask for or give thanks for. You don't need to say it out loud.

4. Closing prayer

Most Holy Death, thank you for listening to me one more night.
I leave in your hands what I have asked of you, knowing that your time is not mine.
Watch over those I love, those who are far away and those who have already passed.
When my hour comes, may you find me at peace and with nothing left unsettled.
Until tomorrow, my Lady.
So be it.
